On the weekend of 14th / 15th September 2024, c. 30 singers from West Cornwall took part for the 1st time in the annual Sing for Water event held on the banks of the Thames. This annual event - now in its 24th year raises money for Wateraid. This year the focus was on providing fresh water and sanitation to villages in Rwanda.
Under the ad hoc name 'Kana Kernow Posse' we learnt 7 beautiful and varied harmony songs (from a Georgian toasting song, to Nick Prater's Wake up, Wake up and the South Africa song Asimbonanga) ... and joined over 500 other singers from all over the country singing in the 'Scoop' on the banks of the Thames near Tower Bridge. The weather was gorgeous - we had a brilliant time rehearsing and singing with 4 wonderful singing leaders: the founder of the event, Helen Chadwick; Roxanne Smith; Una May Olomolaiye and Lea Morris. There was an early start for the rehearsal on Sunday morning ... gorgeous singing and much hilarity inbetween. With the support of fellow singers from choirs, money raised at our 'For the Joy of Singing' concert in Paul in June and individually Kana Kernow Posse singers raised at least £1000 between us. So far (writing on 18th Sept) £13K and rising) has been raised be the event as a whole. This is coming on to giving 1000 people access to clean water ... Thank you to everyone who contributed ... Bravo one and all! |
