ROLLING HARMONY, workshop and concert, June 8th 2024
Nancy Kerr's 'Queen of Waters' (Arr. Roger Jackson / Jane Harris) ... which Rolling Harmony taught us in the morning workshop.
|
Well - what a fantastic morning we had on Saturday learning songs from Rolling Harmony, the acclaimed 9-piece vocal group from the Bath / Bradford-upon-Avon led by Jane Harris.
We were taught by 3 choir leaders: Jane Harris, Claire Stronach and Clara Atkins working seamlessly together and supported by all the other Rolling Harmony singers. No wonder we had 3 songs under our belts before lunchtime. Everyone's highlight (and on-going ear-worm ;-) seemed to be their arrangement of Nancy Kerr's joyful ode to the Bath and Kennet canal: 'Queen of Waters' (which yes ... we will sing with Dawn Chorus ;-) In the evening Rolling Harmony treated us to a stunning full-length concert with varied repertoire from works by contemporary composers writing in traditional, folk genres to Rolling Harmony's take on a couple of Jazz standards. £130 was raised by the bar for St Petroc's work to end homelessness in Cornwall. After the concert we pottered down the hill to the 'Fire Engine' pub (with it's stunning views of St Michael's Mount) for a beautiful sunset and ... more singing! What's not to love? As can be seen from the comments below - the consensus is that a wonderful day was had by all and we would love Rolling Harmony to include us on future tours of the Westcountry. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped on the day: 'angels' who set up the hall, greeted people, ran the bar and cleared up in record time (to get to the pub perchance ... ?). Comments from participants: What an inspirational workshop - you brought out the best in us! Great songs - fantastic teaching, couldn't be better. Best workshop ever! Ideal lengths so still full of energy and concentration. Wonderful tuition. I loved how ambitious you were for us! Lovely songs, fun arrangements and lovely people. Stunning concert - enjoyed every second. |
